How much do we know about the clownfish, apart from the fact that it was starred in the famous animated movie, 'Finding Nemo'? Real clownfish differ greatly from what has been portrayed in the movie, the calm and innocent Nemo. The small Nemo became everyone’s favorite and won popularity among everyone’s heart. However, there are some interesting facts associated with clownfish which are unknown to many of us. Let's have a look into it.

1. Clownfish are also found in yellow, red, maroon, and black color apart from the common orange and white shade.

2. Clownfish find homes in the warm waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, including the Great Barrier Reef of Australia and the Red Sea.

3. There are around 28 to 30 species of clownfish, Percula Clownfish being the most common of all.

4. They are tiny animals with the body length of 11 centimeters long on average. The largest clownfish can reach up to 18 centimeters and the smallest 10 centimeters.

5. Interestingly, all clownfish are born as males but can later change into a female fish, in order to spawn. On the death of a female in the shoal, the most dominant male changes its sex and this transition cannot be reversed.

6. Female clownfish can lay up to 1,000 eggs during the full moon which are guarded by male clownfish until they hatch.

7. These little clownfish are very aggressive and violent by nature as they attack divers vehemently if they perceive any danger.

8. They are omnivorous creatures and feed on both plants and animals. However, their diet consists mainly of algae.
